Bristow, (an ineffetual middle-aged rebel who works as a buying clerk in the Chester-Perry Organization) with his office sparring-partner Jones, weaves hopeless tangles of red tape in his efforts to confuse the system. Inspiration for his ongoing struggle comes from Mrs Purdy the tea lady.
